Dear Members,

We have several BIA Council posts up for election this year and would encourage you to stand. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the work of the Association and to help shape its future.

Each member wishing to be considered for election must receive support from a proposer and seconder. Both must be current BIA members, one of whom must be of at least 2 years' standing. 

BIA encourages applications from every membership, striving for a diverse and inclusive membership and leadership structure.  BIA welcomes a proposal to role share; if you can identify a candidate who could share the role with you, please contact us on admin@britishinfection.org before completing the nomination form. Please see below the eligibility critera for all positions.

Eligibility Criteria for Candidates

All posts on Council shall be elected from among the Association's membership according to the eligibility criteria outlined in the table below.

  1. Consultant or equivalent grade (Infection specialties) and BIA full member working in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
  2. Medical Consultant (Infection Specialties) and BIA full member working in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
  3. Consultant in Medical Microbiology or Medical Virology, or Consultant Clinical Scientist in Microbiology or Virology, and BIA full member working in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
  4. Consultant in Infectious Diseases and BIA full member working in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
  5. Any BIA member with appropriate interest and experience working in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
  6. Medical consultant (Infection Specialties) and BIA full member working in Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales.
  7. BIA trainee member and Infection Specialty Trainee (with National Training Number) training in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
  8. BIA trainee member and Higher Specialist Scientist Trainee (microbiology or virology) training in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
  9. BIA trainee member and medical Infection Specialty Trainee (with National Training Number), HSST (microbiology or virology) or Associate Specialist trainee in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
  10. BIA Associate member working in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
  11. Consultant (Infection specialties) or equivalent BIA full member based outside the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
