New Trainee Programme

A Joint Infection Training Working Party was established at the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) in May 2007 to explore the potential for providing a single, unified training programme for the specialties of Medical Microbiology (MM), Medical Virology (MV), Infectious Disease (ID), and Tropical Medicine (TM) leading to a single CCT.

This group agreed that there should be a combined Infection Training (CIT) pathway, with entry following completion of Core Medical Training (CMT). During CIT, there would be training in laboratory work (microbiology/virology), clinical infectious disease (outpatient and inpatient work), and ward liaison and consultations.

The following documents are available:

  • Speciality Training for Combined Infection Training and Infectious Diseases 2013 [PDF]

  • Curriculum for Specialty Training in Medical Microbiology (incorporating Combined Infection Training) (Draft) [PDF]

  • Curriculum for Specialty Training in Medical Virology (incorporating Combined Infection Training) (Draft) [PDF]
